Visiting London? Don’t miss these off-the-beaten-track attractions

There are dozens of resources on the internet for things to do in London on holiday – most of them involve visiting the Tower of London or taking a trip on the London Eye. That’s not to say that these aren’t great things to do when you’re in the UK’s capital city, but if you’ve been to London before and are returning for a repeat visit, you might want to get off the beaten track a little and see some more of what the city has to offer!

Take a tour

Taking a private tour of London lets you see more of the city, and you’ll benefit from the comfort of a chauffeured vehicle and knowledgeable tour guide. You’ll find most tours can be customised, so it’s easy to stop off at some of the below attractions.

Chelsea Physic Garden

On a beautiful sunny afternoon, a stroll around Chelsea Physic Garden, London’s oldest botanic garden, is a great way to spend your time. Built in 1673, the garden contains over 5,000 medicinal, edible and useful plants, and is often overlooked by tourists visiting the city, making it a peaceful place to unwind. Plus it’s situated in one of London’s most exclusive districts, so you can enjoy shopping and cocktails on the Kings Road afterwards!

The Thames Barrier

Visit this surprisingly beautiful feat of modern engineering and wonder at its steel gates, which rise to five storeys high when fully extended. Built in 1984 at a cost of £500 million, the 520m wide barrier, which spans the Thames at Woolwich, is quite a sight to behold and well worth a visit.

London’s secret bars

London is home to plenty of secret, exclusive drinking dens that seem to pop up out of nowhere – many are themed and great fun to visit. Why not try The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town near Liverpool Street (entered through a quirky fridge door) or the quaint Evans and Peel Detective Agency in Earls Court, a speakeasy posing as a detective agency, of all things. Just make sure you bring plenty of cash, as drinks in London can be expensive!

By booking a private tour, your guide will be able to fill you in on plenty more unusual London sights and attractions; just ask! Stay away from the throngs of tourists and spend your days exploring another side to this fascinating city – once you’ve visited once, a return trip will definitely be on the cards.
