We left Paris early for the drive to the beaches. We journeyed today in one of our super lux M/Benz mini coaches with a party of 14, 3 generations of a family from New York who wished to visit the principal sights of the Normandy Landings. Our first stop was a hearty breakfast before we visited the beaches themselves. How brave they must have been those young men who landed here. After touring the beaches we then went on to the Allied harbor, Mulberry. Without this amazing structure the invasion would not have been a success.
Lunch was had at the American Center then we made our way on to Pegasus Bridge and the associated fortifications along the coast. Finally we visited the US Cemetery and the real cost of the struggle came home. One cannot be other than very emotional here. What a day. Exhausted and humbled we made our way back to Paris.
