We began our day early in central London. We had a party of 6, a delightful family from New York who had only made the reservation with us the week before. Keith, our chauffeur had stocked the Mercedes people carrier with biscuits and before we left the city we took coffees to go.
An hour and a half later we arrived at Dover. The castle stood majestically on the cliff top and I could not wait to start our tour. First stop were the Napoleonic tunnels, our private tour took us to where Admiral Ramsey had masterminded the evacuation of Allied forces from Dunkirk in 1940. After the tunnels we scampered up the hill to Henry ii`s 12th Century fortress. Right at the top of the castle we had a wonderful view of France, only 20 miles away.
Lunch was at Leeds Castle, perhaps the most beautiful castle in the Kingdom and after touring this lovely building we made our way to Canterbury. On our way we travelled through the beautiful Kent countryside pausing for a cup of tea at the picture post card village of Chilham.
We arrived at Canterbury at around 4 pm and the first sight of the Cathedral took my clients breath away. We spent over an hour here and our highlight was to hear the choir and organ preparing for Evensong.
My clients had earned their sleep back to London and by 7pm we had dropped our clients back to their Bloomsbury apartment.
Another wonderful day!
