Guaranteed entrance to Downton Abbey
Tour Highlights: Visit the sumptuous interior of Downton Abbey, tours of Highclere Castle, the estate & manicured parklands, the world famous Egyptian Galleries, the breathtaking Cotswold village of Bampton, the wonderful location used for the outside shoots for the TV series and a simply thrilling time at the delightful Downton Abbey museum run by the local villagers at the cottage hospital.
Walk in the footsteps of your favourite characters and instantly recognise scenes from the screen drama. Highclere Castle is the film location for the hugely successful Downton Abbey, which has been nominated for four Golden Globes. A longstanding friend of the Carnarvon family, Julian Fellowes, the author of the show, always had Highclere Castle in mind as he wrote Downton Abbey. He often commented he wanted a house which spectacularly testified to the confidence and soaring optimism of the Edwardian period.
We spend the morning driving through the spectacular Cotswold countryside before arriving at the delightful village of Bampton. We visit Downton hospital, the Dog and Duck and Grantham Arms pubs, the post office, the parish church, Downton Fair , the Crawley residence and Mr. Bate`s pub. We might even dine at The Swan Pub, another famous location scene that we are sure you will find instantly familiar ; this was of course where the naughty Branson attempted an elopement with Lady Sybil.
