Guaranteed entrance to Downton Abbey!

Tour Highlights: Visit the sumptuous interior of Downton Abbey, tour the estate & manicured parklands, the world famous Egyptian Galleries, the breathtaking Cotswold village of Bampton, the wonderful location used for the outside shoots for the TV series and a simply thrilling time at the delightful Downton Abbey museum run by the local villagers at the cottage hospital.

Walk in the footsteps of your favourite characters and instantly recognise scenes from the screen drama. Highclere Castle is the film location for the hugely successful Downton Abbey, which has been nominated for four Golden Globes. A longstanding friend of the Carnarvon family, Julian Fellowes, the author of the show, always had Highclere Castle in mind as he wrote Downton Abbey. He often commented he wanted a house which spectacularly testified to the confidence and soaring optimism of the Edwardian period.

We spend the morning driving through the spectacular Cotswold countryside before arriving at the delightful village of Bampton. We visit Downton hospital, the Dog and Duck and Grantham Arms pubs, the post office, the parish church, Downton Fair , the Crawley residence and Mr. Bate`s pub. We might even dine at The Swan Pub, another famous location scene that we are sure you will find instantly familiar ; this was of course where the naughty Branson attempted an elopement with Lady Sybil.

The afternoon is then spent at the real highlight of our day, the sumptuous Highclere castle where we tour the lavish interior of the house, the parklands and exquisite gardens.

There is time for afternoon tea perhaps or even a visit to the world famous Egyptian galleries. There is some unique souvenir shopping from the official store to be had before we make our way home. What a lovely day!

As with all our tours, if our most popular tour schedules do not suit your specific requirements, please allow us to create a customised itinerary especially for you. We always remember the day is yours to cherish.

“Dear Oliver, Forgive me for taking so long in writing to you. I was up 24 straight hours the day we flew home (Wednesday) and it has taken me a bit of time to recover. I want to thank you for the wonderful time we had with you! It would be hard to say what we enjoyed more – Stonehenge, Cotswolds or the London Eye but very easy to say you provided us with experiences we will never forget! Mom loved all of it and I thank you for the kindness both you and Keith showed her. It wasn’t easy getting her around, but you made it a breeze and we missed you on the days we weren’t with you. All of the meals you booked were delicious. Mom loved the lunch in the Cotswolds – love it! We all did. The food was incredible and it was such a lovely setting. In fact, Mom wants to come back and spend more time out there. So you did a great job for us! I don’t know if you’re in touch with the place we went to lunch in the Cotswold (Lower Manor House?) but if you are would you please pass along to them how much we loved the food and a special thanks to the staff for their help with Mom? You can be sure we will not think about our trip without thinking of you and Keith. I hope you have a wonderful Fall…hopefully allowing you some time with Olivia. Thanks again for all you did for us Oliver. You were a godsend, a wonderful guide, and easy to be around! You have my eternal thanks.” Read more testimonials
