Guaranteed entrance to Downton Abbey!

Tour Highlights: Visit the sumptuous interior of Downton Abbey, tour the estate & manicured parklands, the world famous Egyptian Galleries, the breathtaking Cotswold village of Bampton, the wonderful location used for the outside shoots for the TV series and a simply thrilling time at the delightful Downton Abbey museum run by the local villagers at the cottage hospital.

Walk in the footsteps of your favourite characters and instantly recognise scenes from the screen drama. Highclere Castle is the film location for the hugely successful Downton Abbey, which has been nominated for four Golden Globes. A longstanding friend of the Carnarvon family, Julian Fellowes, the author of the show, always had Highclere Castle in mind as he wrote Downton Abbey. He often commented he wanted a house which spectacularly testified to the confidence and soaring optimism of the Edwardian period.

We spend the morning driving through the spectacular Cotswold countryside before arriving at the delightful village of Bampton. We visit Downton hospital, the Dog and Duck and Grantham Arms pubs, the post office, the parish church, Downton Fair , the Crawley residence and Mr. Bate`s pub. We might even dine at The Swan Pub, another famous location scene that we are sure you will find instantly familiar ; this was of course where the naughty Branson attempted an elopement with Lady Sybil.

The afternoon is then spent at the real highlight of our day, the sumptuous Highclere castle where we tour the lavish interior of the house, the parklands and exquisite gardens.

There is time for afternoon tea perhaps or even a visit to the world famous Egyptian galleries. There is some unique souvenir shopping from the official store to be had before we make our way home. What a lovely day!

As with all our tours, if our most popular tour schedules do not suit your specific requirements, please allow us to create a customised itinerary especially for you. We always remember the day is yours to cherish.

“Oliver, My wife Tamara and I had an amazing tour from Tim yesterday. Our heads were filled with constant information that we found incredibly interesting. Besides being a wealth of knowledge about the history of London and Britain he had a great sense of humor and also gave us very interesting trivia (the oldest barber shop, and the oldest hat purveyors in London, where to meet a river cruise, good time to ride The Eye, etc.). We could not recommend him highly enough for his knowledge and his charming personality. The tour is surely the high point of our trip to London. Please pass on our thanks to him again. Thank you, Glenn Ely” Read more testimonials
